7 Tips to keep your home warmer this winter (and save you some £££ too!)

As the temperatures drop, the dark nights creep in and we are spending more time at home because of the pandemic, it’s the perfect time to start thinking about turning up the heat without turning down your bank balance!

Using a combination of tips from our engineers, staff and customers we’ve come up with some thrifty ways to keep your home warmer this winter;

1. Maintain your heating systems

Just like your car, your boiler needs an annual MOT You don’t want your heating systems to pack in as soon as we see a little frost, so first things first, remember to book your service to keep your system running smoothly throughout the Winter.

2. Next stop your radiators

If they are cooler at the top than at the bottom then there is air trapped inside, so bleed them so they run super efficiently. Make sure to turn off the heating in unused areas of the house, and if you place foil behind radiators that are located beside an external wall, this can help reflect the heat back into the room. Toasty home sorted!

3. Block out any draughts

If you can still feel a chill check all your windows and doors and use draught excluders which are very affordable and available in most DIY stores.

4. Feng shui

You might need to move your furniture about, not to harmonise the energy levels in the room but rather the heat levels! If your favourite sofa is placed in front of the radiator it could be absorbing heat from the rest of the room.

5. Curtains, Curtains, Curtains

The thicker the better! These are one of the best ways to protect your home from losing heat through windows, and rugs for your floors. Open your curtains in the morning to let in plenty of warm sunlight, and close at dusk to maximise heat retention in your home!

6. Feed a cold

What better way to warm you up than a hot comforting dinner, so get out that recipe for granny’s best stew or check out https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/collection/comfort-food-recipes for some super comforting grub.
